Description
Reflection in C♯ minor, Op. 12
for piano · Sasha Sound
The melody arrived as if it had always existed, on a warm summer day at the door of a piano school in San Jose. Reflection is about that moment of insight: hearing an idea clearly, the way a still lake holds the moon.
The invitation. At the fermata in measure 41, the music stops and hands the stage to you. Write your own cadenza in response to what you’ve heard, or play the piece as written, which is a complete reading too.
From the preface: “The pause between thoughts and the pause between musical thoughts are the same pause — the breath of the vibration itself.”
For performers and teachers. Late intermediate to advanced. The writing is nuanced and fluid, built on contrast, and passes through several stylistic transformations before coming home to the opening theme. It suits recitals, composition and creative-piano festivals, talent showcases, and own-choice slots in CM, RCM and ABRSM evaluations.
The edition. First edition, October 2026. Reviewed by Mari Kawamura and Christopher Narloch. Includes a one-page preface, fingerings, hand allocations, and closing notes on the edition. 8 pages, US Letter PDF, single-performer licence.
Send me your cadenza. Record it and send it to sashasound.art/cadenza. The edition is finished; the piece is not.
